It is some six hundred years old. The kingdom of Vijayanagara was famous all over the world. In those days the subjects were in great trouble due to foreign invasions on India. There was sorrow and worry and deep turmoil in the hearts of people everywhere. But the people there were very happy because of the efficient governance, justice-loving and public-vatsalata of Vijayanagar's majestic king Krishna Deva Raya. King Krishnadeva Raya had instilled a sense of self-respect for his culture along with hard work and virtues in the subjects, so no foreign invader had the courage to look towards Vijayanagara. Vijayanagara stood like a strong rock before the storm of foreign invasions. At the same time, people there were fond of literature and arts and were ridiculers. In those days, there was a very intelligent and talented teenager in Tenali village of Vijayanagara. His name was Ramalingam. He was very funny and witty. His humorous words and jokes made the people of Tenali village very happy. Ramalingam himself did not laugh much, but slowly someone would say such a clever thing that the listeners would burst into laughter. There was a hidden sarcasm and great sense of humor in his words.
